Event Marquees
What is an event marquee? Is you are interested in hiring a marquee for an event, the best place to start would be to ask yourself what the event is for and the type of event you want it to be? Your budget can be really important too as that may well decide not only the size of the marquee, but any additional extra’s you might want.
Typically the main reasons for an event marquee might be a wedding or private party, a corporate event or a public event such as a sporting event or a festival or a seasonal event. The reasons are so numerous and varied that they can’t be listed all in this article.
Some of the more popular reasons clients like to hire a marquee for an event would be if they were getting married and need a marquee for a wedding. Or if the client is having a private party for a Christening or as an important birthday such as an 18th, 21st, 30th 40th, 50th, 65th Birthday – any excuse for a party really! Lets not forget all of the important anniversary’s that are widely celebrated too.
Corporate events are popular to be held in a marquee too as often the company has use of it’s own land or car park and can thus save on hiring a venue.
Putting the typical reasons to hire a marquee aside. I would consider an ‘Event marquee’ to be more associated with a public event. These are typically held for the purpose of the public.
Some of the public events we’ve supplied marquee’s are as follows, The Ikano Half Marathon, Tough Mudder, Boxing events, Rugby tournaments, athletic competitions, Archery GB and various festivals such as Glastonbury Festival, V Fest, Download, Outbreak to name just a few.
We’ve also hired marquees for events at many Universities including Aston, Coventry, Birmingham Warwick, Harper Adams, Oxford, Manchester, Leicester and Nottingham. The size and type of structure very much depends on the type of event’s that the marquee is being used for. More about marquee’s for Universities can be found here.
Another popular reason to hire is for a Charity event. Charities often use marquee’s as a base to fund raise at an event. With these events taking place in public parks, the charity can use the structure to keep the staff dry and to display information about the event. As with most fund raising events, it’s vital that the cost of the marquee is balanced against how much is raised for the charity.
Marquees are also great to hold a seasonal celebration in, such as a Christmas party or fairs, Halloween, Oktoberfest, Summer fates or any number of different harvest festivals. Having a marquee allows your guest to get out of the sun in summer or warm up with a hot drinking during the colder months.
Typically this type of event takes place just for one day, usually the marquee will need to be set up on the morning of the event and de-rigged that same day. All of this is possible, with planning and notice. This type of event usually needs to be self sufficient for power too, so hiring a generator can be important to power a PA system for music and a microphone, boil water for tea and coffee and sockets to possibly power a laptop/projector.
